Playing without an account

This is the default and it always will be. Nothing is collected, nothing is asked for, and no part of the app is locked behind signing in. A guest gets a random session identifier and a display name like “Player 4821”, neither of which is linked to you.

If you make an account

We store your email address, a display name, an avatar choice, and your rating record — rating, peak, wins, losses, draws. That is the entire list. Signing in with Google gives us your email address and the name on the account; it does not give us access to anything else in your Google account.

Your email address is never shown to other players, never appears on the leaderboard, and is never sold, shared, or used to send you anything other than sign-in and password-reset mail.

What we never collect

Your real name (unless you type one as your display name), school, phone number, exact location, photographs, video, audio, or any other contact information. There are no third-party analytics or advertising trackers anywhere in this app.

What a match stores

If match history is enabled on this deployment, we store which questions were asked, which answers were given, how long each answer took, and the resulting score — so that the results screen and topic breakdown can be shown. Your progress, your streak and the questions you got wrong are kept in this browser only, and are never uploaded, with or without an account.

Where it lives

Your session identifier is kept in your browser’s session storage and disappears when you close the tab. Your match preferences, theme, display name, avatar, match history and review list live in this browser’s local storage and never leave this device. An account adds one row in our database — the fields listed above — and a sign-in cookie so you stay signed in.

What other players can see

Your display name, your score, and — after a round has finished — which answer you chose. Your answer is never revealed to your opponent while the round is still running. If you are on the leaderboard, other players also see your display name and your rating. Nothing else about you is visible to anyone, ever.

Deleting your account

Ask and we will delete it. Deleting the account deletes your profile row — email, display name and rating record — outright. Anything stored in your own browser is yours to clear from Settings, or by clearing site data.

Safety notice

sat.ranked has no chat, no direct messages, no file or image uploads, no public profiles, and no video or audio. There is no mechanism for another player to contact you, with or without an account. If a future version ever adds player-to-player communication, reporting and blocking will ship with it, not after it.
